The Larch Hills Trail Lighting Committee Update
The Lighting committee has continued with fundraising and planning over the past year. To date, the committee has raised approximately $150,000 through private and corporate donors, Kraft Heinz Project Play and other fundraising events like last year’s successful holiday concert. We are awaiting word on gaming grant applications that if successful, would allow for us to move forward with construction of the initial 2 phases next spring.
Many of the tedious steps in the process have now been completed. These include engineered plans for the electrical layout, physical mapping and layout of the lit trail network, an archaeological assessment and a consultation period with local First Nations. We have completed the comprehensive application with Rec Sites and Trails, and BC Parks and are awaiting final permitting approvals. The environmental impact assessment has also been completed. All reports are available for viewing on the Larch Hills website here.
We would like to extend our appreciation to the various donors for their support of this project. We understand the remarkable circumstances around the current pandemic and are acutely aware of the financial commitment that our donors have demonstrated. We continue to welcome any donations and appreciate the assistance of Nordiq Canada in administering this process. A full list of donors and links to donation forms are available on the Lighting committee page of the Larch Hills website as well. Click the link here.
Commercial Film Shoot Update
On December 2nd the film crew found some locations that will work for the film crew with minimal disruption to the skiers. The dates they gave us for the shoot are Dec 8th and 9th but that is subject to change and we will confirm as soon as we know.
The filming will tentatively take place on Larch Lake Loop and the Whoopee’s.
This Film production requires the use of snowmobiles on the trails and for safety purposes Trail Security will be present. If you happen to come across the group filming please take direction from the Trail Security and allow the Production Crew the space they require. A representative from LHNS will be assisting the crew as a guide.
As with all operations and projects that happen at Larch Hills, this has been approved by Rec Sites and Trails BC.
