The club and race team are looking to understand the level of interest in a bus service to move skiers between Salmon Arm and Larch Hills on specific days/times. The motivation for the service is to reduce vehicle trips and related CO2 emissions and allow for a convenient option to get to and from the hill.â€
Imagine you are enjoying skiing or snowshoeing on the Larch Hills Trails. Suddenly you encounter an injured person who is in distress. It’s minus 10C. How would you respond? In what ways is our Larch Hills Nordics Club prepared to support your response and assist you? Safety equipment is located at several locations on the trail system and there are Safety Hosts who are available to help when they are on the hill.
Larch Hills SAFETY HOSTS:
1. RESPOND to an emergency if called upon by cell phone or in person. We participate in First Aid Training, Mock Rescues Training and motorized and non-motorized Club Equipment Training.
2. WEAR a Hi-Vis Yellow Arm Band with a white cross on a red background to identify ourselves as Larch Hills Volunteer Safety Hosts.
3. USE the Safety Host Sign In board at the Kiosk across from the Chalet to indicate to fellow skiers that we are out on the trails with our cell phones turned on – ready to respond.
As a Safety Host your skiing or snowshoeing experiences are NOT scheduled and we do NOT systematically patrol the trails. You can enjoy your time skiing and snowshoeing. We ask that you sign in and be ready to respond only when help is needed.
We are currently a group of 11 Larch Hills Volunteer Safety Hosts serving approximately 1500 LHNS members.
If you are a frequent skier at Larch Hills, your help will be much appreciated!
Please consider joining the Larch Hills SAFETY HOSTS.
