From CCBC:
On the final homestretch, Caledonia turned on the jets and secured its first victory!  In a very tight race for 2nd, both Sovereign Lake and Larch Hills lunged a toe past Telemark for a photo-finish tie.  Congrats to Larch Hills for being 50 members ahead of this day last year, likely on route to another membership record.

Arwen’s Dream Trail (new Beginners Trail) Opening Ski Tour
You are invited to join fellow Ski Club members and some of the local folks (volunteers and contractors) who helped plan, design and construct the new Beginners Trail. Come join us for a short (2.6K out and back) or longer (~6K) ski tour of the new Beginners Trail, named “Arwen’s Dream” on Saturday morning, December 28 from the Chalet starting at 10 a.m. Refreshments will be served at the Chalet at ~11 a.m. with time to visit and ask questions.

Arwen’s Dream Trial is ~1.3K in length. Over that distance, the trail gains ~47 meters elevation with an average grade of ~3.6%. Maximum grades over short sections on Arwen’s Dream Trail are less than 6%. Compare that  to the maximum grades of 14% – 15% on some hill sections of Metford Road, Ermine Frolic and Larch Hills Road.

Arwen’s Dream Trail accesses many kilometers of “Easy” category track set trails on the South Hub bench. The Beginners Trail offers a gentle descent route returning to the Chalet. The name Arwen’s Dream was suggested by Club Member, Megan Brooke, after the young Half-Elven female character in Lord of the Rings. We hope that all club members, especially new skiers and skiers both young and mature enjoy this Trail!

In February 2015 all LHNS members were asked to share their opinions on 24 Club related topics including “Trail Planning” priorities in an on-line LHNS Strategic Planning Questionnaire. About 220 members responded to Question #8. Members were asked to rank six identified “Trail Planning” priorities. The need for a new Beginner trail ranked second highest of the six priorities, with “Maintain existing trails” ranking first.
The Arwen’s Dream Trail Opening Ski Tour and post Ski Tour Chalet gathering and refreshments event is being hosted by the LHNS Trail Planning & Land Use Committee.
