BC Championships!

This past weekend the Larch Hills Nordic Society hosted the BC Cross Country Ski Championships. This three-day event was a huge success! The athletes, coaches, parents and volunteers had an amazing time. This event would not have been possible without the extremely hard-working volunteers of the Larch Hills Nordic Society. We are extremely grateful for all the volunteers that put in countless hours to make this weekend happen. Thank you to everyone that worked so diligently to make it the huge success that it was. It is truly heartwarming to see so many Larch Hills members come together to work on a project of this size.

We would like to specifically acknowledge Alan Corbett (Chief of Competition) and Alicia Timmermans (Volunteer Coordinator). Without these two stepping up to coordinate people, the race could not happen in the first place. They had volunteers working for them who also put in many hours both during the weekend itself, and also leading up to the event.

The Larch Hills Nordic Society proudly came second overall, with the first place team, Hollyburn, winning the championship by only two points!

Hard Day’s Night

Remember the first annual Hard Day’s Night Backyard ski event is coming up on March 16-17th at Larch Hills. It is a Back Yard format in which skiers do a single lap every hour for as long as they can or wish to go. The lap is 8.4 km.
In 3 hours, you would complete 25km. In 6 hours, 50km. In 12 hours, 100km. And for those who can last all night, 24 hours will equal 200km.

We are looking for some volunteers to do shifts to help give hot drinks and soup and make sure no skiers are lost on the course.
Please look at the sign up sheet below and see if you can help out – kids and adults welcome to help!
Also consider challenging yourself to participate and complete any number of laps you desire! Skiers must be 16 or older to register.

Thanks from the Hard Day’s night organizing committee!

New Dog Trail Naming Contest

There are just a few days left in the Dog Trail Naming contest that ends on March 10th, 2024. The Larch Hills Nordic Society will be collecting name ideas for the new dog trail on private land that was completed last summer. Please send in your name suggestions to manager@skilarchhills.ca. We are hoping for a name that will complement some of the existing trail names. Keep in mind that we do have some trail names with a Lord of the Rings theme. There will be some small prizes awarded to the finalists for this competition.
