LARCH HILLS MEMBERS
Trails Safety:  It’s up to You…,
with a little help from your LHNS Volunteers Friends!

EMERGENCY ON TRAIL? CALL 250 833 LHNS (5467). Our Club Managers will answer between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. when on duty.
No Response?
Send a skier for help. Call 911: expect at least 90 minutes wait time.

5 Tips to considerably reduce Emergency Response time:
1) CARRY a fully charged Cell Phone with you with 250 833 LHNS(5467) added to your phone contacts list
2) CARRY a copy with you of the 2-sided Emergency Responders Contacts and Cell Phone Reception Areas trails map (free and waterproof, recyclable), available on the Kiosk Notice Board across from Chalet. REVIEW enlarged Cell Reception maps at six on-trail locations.
3) USE / LOAD a geo referenced Cell Phone Reception Areas trails map on your phone: details on the LHNS website’s Trail Maps page. Ask a Safety Host about this. Identify where help is needed.
4) TRY TEXTING if the cell signal strength is weak or if there is “No Service” on your phone
5) BE PREPARED by understanding the LHNS “Skier/Snowshoer Emergency Response” and LHNS “Winter Emergency Preparations” posted on the LHNS website’s Safety Hosts webpage, next to the Chalet Safety Hosts Board OR speak with a LHNS Safety Host.
Skiers using the Larch Hills trails ski at their own risk. Trails are not patrolled. Ski with a group of friends. HAVE A SAFE & FUN DAY SKIING/SNOWSHOEING.

Club Volunteers’ work to help make the ski trails safer:

  • Sight line improvements
  • High Branch pruning and Umbrella Tree removal to reduce frozen snow bombs’
  • Track setting that eliminates tracks on steep downhill sections and on tight turns.
  • Tiller renovation of icy tracks and skate lanes.
  • Please report the specifics of any needed trail safety improvements suggestions to Club Manager, Karen Tanchak for action.

LHNS Volunteer Safety Hosts “goings on” by 17 volunteers this season:

  • 7 Volunteer Safety Hosts took a 16-hour, 2-day Wilderness First Aid Course Nov. 4-5, 2023 with 9 Shuswap Volunteer Search & Rescue (SVSAR) members based from the Club’s Chalet.
  • The majority of the 17 LHNS Volunteer Safety Hosts have current First Aid certification.
  • We hosted a “Survive Outside” 90-minute info. session in January 2024 attended by ~ 12 Club members. The lead presenter was Richard Reeves, an experienced member of SVSAR.
  • We conducted three small-group, on-snow Safety Host Rescue Practices in late January and early February.
  • Interested in taking some basic training, you ski or snowshoe at your convenience and be available to respond if help is needed?       Email Jessica at:     jessica@jessicaklikach.com
