We have wrapped up another successful Lantern Ski. The lanterns are all snuggly nestled in their orange crates and stored away for 2025. Over $2500 and a few boxes of food was donated by all the participants for Second Harvest Food Bank. Once expenses are deducted, LHNS will have a nice donation to the food bank.
This year was not unlike any other year where we have needed to amend the event to accommodate an unforeseen circumstance. Who would have thought the bogs would not be frozen?? A new course was planned and we think it turned out to be a good alternative.
We can’t begin to show our appreciation to all the volunteers who contributed approx. 164 hours of time it takes to make the Lantern Ski happen.
Some deserve an extra special thank you: The Beckners for organizing the lantern lighting crews. Phil Wright for being the steadfast reception greeter. Antje Breugem for stepping in at the last moment to light the tree and keeping the candles going. Don and Ingrid Howieson for bringing their expertise to the food service in the chalet. The Heckrodts and Kristen Maddox for setting up the paper bag lights. Heather Nash and family for providing the welcoming firepit at the South Hub. George Jackson and Dave Millard and the grooming crews for keeping our trails in the best shape possible. Karen Tanchak who always had the answers to our numerous questions and who contributed in countless ways. Kari Wilkinson for sharing the organization of the event and organizing all the sleds, trailers and toboggans for set-up and take down.
And last but not least – Kerry Miller for keeping track of all the little things that need to happen to make Lantern Ski happen – ordering supplies, coordinating the lantern cleaning and filling, ensuring we have volunteers, and helping with all the setup and takedown. And doing this steadfastly for the past 5 years. Kerry has decided this will be her last year to help coordinate this much loved event – and we will miss her immensely.
NEW COORDINATOR NEEDED FOR 2025!
Kerry Miller has officially stepped down as a Lantern Coordinator. Kari Wilkinson will need a NEW coordinator(s) to help plan the 2025 Lantern Ski. Without this key position filled, pulling Lantern Ski off is not possible. If you love the lantern ski event – please consider stepping up. Please contact Kari Wilkinson at 250-833-9261 if you have questions.
Thank you for all the memories! Kari and Kerry
