2024 02.01: LHNS Orienteering, Nordiq Canada Fundraiser

LARCH HILLS SKI CLUB
Ski-O

(Orienteering on skis for all ages and abilities)

 February 18, 2024

Date:  Sunday Feb. 18, 2024 1:30 to 3pm

Fee:  Donations appreciated to cover cost of maps and the SI units.

Sign in:  In the chalet starting at 12:45 pm.  You need to sign in to get your SI stick for punching in at the controls (check points)

Map hand out:  Maps will be handed out at 1:10 pm.

Start/Finish time: 1:30 to 3pm.

How it works: You will be given a map with all the control (checkpoint ) locations. You have 20 minutes to plan your route.  Everyone will start at the same time (1:30pm).  Each control is worth 40, 60 or 80 points. The object is to get as many points as possible by 3 pm.  You will have points deducted if you are back after 3pm.

The track set trails, backcountry trails, and snowshoe trails are all mapped.  There are a lot of controls on non-trackset trails this year so classic technique is recommended.  Beginners and younger skiers are encouraged to ski in a group of at least 2.  Once you get back you will download your SI stick in the chalet which will show how many controls you got, your total points, and it will also give the time you took.

There will be awards for the top female, male, family with a member under 7, family with a member 7 to 12 years old, and a family with a member 13 to 17 years old. At least one parent or grandparent is required on each family team. This year there will also be a category for teams with at least one grandparent.

Registration:  If you think you will be there please send an email with your name and number in your group to Phil Wallensteen at  wallfen@gmail.com .  We need this to know how many maps to print off.

If you decide to come last minute there will be a few extra maps but probably not one for each member of the group.

Non Club Members:  Day use fees can be found here

Example map:  Last year’s  map is attached.

LARCH HILLS SKI CLUB
Club Fundraiser
Make Tracks with a new Snowcat

Our fundraising initiative through Nordiq Canada will continue to focus on a new snowcat to replace our existing pistenbully.   Donating through Nordiq will allow you to receive a tax receipt for the 2024 year.

The estimated cost of the new grooming machine is around $600, 000.

?The ??club plans to apply for grants that come available in 2024.  With the savings we have already set aside for tracksetter replacement ($300K) and the trade-in value of our current machine (approx $65K) we need to continue our fundraising efforts.

You can find the link to the donation page here.
