Volunteer Safety Host Program

Emergency help and assistance on Larch Hills trails.

Volunteer Safety Host Program

LHNS Safety Host Volunteers help LHNS members by aiming to respond quickly and appropriately to injured skiers and snowshoers — primarily, but not exclusively, on Larch Hills trackset trails.

Availability & How to Find a Host

  • Volunteer service is not scheduled. There is no systematic trail patrol.
  • Hosts are prepared to respond while they are skiing, when contacted by cell phone or in person.
  • Carry the Emergency Contacts Page.
  • Check the daily Sign-In / Sign-Out board at the map kiosk beside the Chalet, in the ski start area.

How to Recognize a Safety Host

Safety Hosts wear a yellow armband with a white cross on a red background while skiing.

Most Safety Hosts hold WorkSafe B.C. Occupational First Aid Level 1 or higher, along with Transportation Endorsement training and certification.

Volunteers are trained to use the club’s:

  • Snowmobiles
  • Rescue toboggans
  • SKED
  • Full body splint
