Dancing With the Shuswap Stars

Once again the Dancing With the Shuswap Stars fundraising event for the Larch Hills Chalet Expansion was a huge success! For the second year in a row, the winning couple and the runner up in the Pro-Am category were all from Larch Hills. Congratulations to Ingrid and Rob vanVarseveld and Duncan Moore for their amazing performances last Friday night!

This year the Dancing With the Stars raised close to $35,000 after expenses! This is a huge help to the Chalet Expansion project. Thank you to everyone in the community that supported this event. Your enthusiasm is very much appreciated.

The date for the Dancing With the Shuswap Stars next year is set for November 23, 2018.

Chalet Expansion Update

The Larch Hills Chalet Expansion has made incredible progress in the past month. The roof is now on the new building and the connecting part of the old building. The remainder of the old roof will be completed in the spring. All of the windows are installed and most of the doors. Work on the project will continue throughout the winter.

Thank you to all of the people who worked so hard this fall by donating their time, energy, expertise and money. This project has truly been a community effort. Although there is still a lot of work to be done, the progress made so far is really something everyone should be proud of.

Larch Hills eNews – In Search of Recruits for Level 2 Officials Training in Salmon Arm!

In Search of  Recruits for Level 2 Officials Training in Salmon Arm!

CCBC has lined up an instructor to teach the Level 2 Officials course in Salmon Arm in early January. For insurance purposes, it is a requirement for the Chief of Race for a major loppet or BC Cup or higher level race to hold this certification. The training will also be useful for any officials or organizers involved in races and events hosted by our club.

It would be a great asset to have more Larch Hills members with this training. We now have the opportunity to host the course here in Salmon Arm, but we need a group of people to come forward and make it happen! The level 1 course, which is prerequisite, can be taken on line at your convenience.

If you are interested taking the level 2 course in January (or have questions), please contact me as soon as possible as CCBC is awaiting a response and needs to make the decision shortly. It is a 2-day course, and our options are thw weekend of January 6th-7th or January 13th-14th. Let me know your availability/preference.

Dancing with the Shuswap Stars Live Stream

Larch Hills members who were not able to get tickets for the Nov. 17th Dancing with the Shuswap Stars event can still be a part of the fund raising for the chalet expansion.

This year’s event will be live streamed that evening. Roxy Roth and her team at Shuswap Event will be videoing all the action at the SASCU Rec Center so that anyone can watch and hear the evening’s events on their smart phone, computer or, even better, on their wide-screen TV  connected to their computer.  Larch Hills members can enjoy the evening’s entertainment in the comfort of their own home or from wherever they might be, through the live coverage.

They can even help make sure that the winner of the Pro-Am category is our own Larch Hills president, Duncan Moore, by buying stars online through Paypal using their credit card. Remember every star purchased adds $5 to our chalet fund.

Live streaming will start at 7 p.m. and run until after the winners are announced at 11 p.m. Online voting will end at 10:30 so these votes can be tallied in with the votes of the recreation center audience and the judges.

Larch Hills Safety Hosts

Would you like to be more capable of assisting an injured skier or snowshoer in the Larch Hills?

This fall consider joining the Larch Hills Safety Hosts! Your help will be much appreciated.

If you are a frequent skier at Larch Hills we need your help!

  • Our Volunteer service time while skiing is NOT scheduled. We do NOT systematically patrol the 50K of track set trails.
  • WE DO COME PREPARED to respond to an emergency if called upon by cell phone or in person.
  • We wear a Hi-Vis Yellow Arm Band with a white cross on a red background while skiing to identify ourselves as LHNS Safety Hosts.
  • We use the Safety Host Sign In – Sign Out board beside the front door of the Chalet to indicate to fellow skiers that we are on the trails skiing with our cell phones turned on – ready to respond.

We are currently a group of 18 LHNS member volunteers, both women and men.
Larch Hills Ski Club will cover half the cost Okanagan College’s Work Safe BC one day First Aid Level 1 course and the one day Transportation Endorsement course if you wish to take this training. We’ll help you to learn how to use our Club’s snowmobiles and to participate in an emergency response exercise.
Want to find out more about this volunteer LHNS member service?
Contact Keith at 250-832-7768 (kncox@shaw.ca) or George at 250-832-9335  (gjzorn@shaw.ca).
Come to the November 14 LHNS Safety meeting and meet the group.
